Jump Up in Dominica! |

| At the end of January the Opening Parade took place in Dominica to jump start their Carnival season. Between then and their Jump up days they had The Stardom Calypso Tent, which is commonly known to be on the Wednesday before Carnival. The Showdown Mas Camp another well known tent, occurred on the Friday nights leading up to Carnival.
One of the favourites before Carnival Monday and Tuesday is the Lagoon Street Jam being a pre taste and jump before the real thing. During their Carnival season there is a Teenage Pageant and The National Queen Show which is always well attended. The Dominican Carnival Queen title was taken by Marcia Baptiste.
On Carnival Saturday the National Calypso Finals took place. Once again Karessah has been crowned the 2010 Calypso King. He has retained his crown for the second year in a row, winning with his song Dog Race. First runner-up went to The Bobb, and then came Tasha P followed by Soul Puss.
Carnival Monday, the 15th February is the Traditional day starting with Jouvert, later in the day are the Traditional Old Mas Costume bands and t-shirt bands. On Tuesday 16th February it is the day for The Carnival King & Queen, Queen Contestants and other costume bands. This year Murphy Sye Jno Jules took Road March with his hit Dr. Finger. Both days were having said to be a blast, every year the costumes getting better and the island being filled with smiles, alcohol and lots of dancing. |
